Lace wedding cake

A recent wedding cake, decorated with sugar roses, peonies and piped lace and pearls.

Bear and Zebra cakes

Here are two cakes made recently for birthdays. Both cakes are sculptures carved out of chocolate cake filled with ganache and covered in icing.  Even those little teeth and tongue are made of icing too!

Zebra cake

A zebra patterned marble cake.  Just a baking practice for fun.
Next month I'll be making the (almost) real thing, a standing Zebra cake.

Baking brioches

Taking a break from sugarcraft, here's a traditional brioche I made yesterday, based on a  recipe from Paul Hollywood's  "how to bake", (p.186).

Gingerbread auction

Thanks to very generous colleagues, 9 of my Gingerbread houses and 50 or so cookies raised an amazing £2855 last Thursday when auctioned at work, with all proceeds given to a new initiative organising a special Christmas Day event for one hundred elderly people who would otherwise be alone.    Bids went as high as £1000 for the Frozen large Amboise style house below.

Baby shower cake

When time is limited, decorating a supermarket cake can produce good results and save a few hours. Here is a very acceptable £6 Waitrose plain iced cake decorated as a baby shower cake. I spent just a couple of hours making this realistic baby figurine on a pillow, a teddy bear and some fanion lettering for a colleague.  Baby Elisa was born early January and even looked a little like the figurine.

Gingerbread houses and cookies

Here are some pictures of my gingerbread collection this year.  I designed various sizes and styles including "Amboise" based on a beautiful house I saw in the Loire Valley last month. I loved the perfect proportions of this house with its high pitched roof.   At least 8 of these houses and many cookies will be sold and auctioned next week with all proceeds to a benevolent cause set up by a colleague who is organising an event to provide a special Christmas Day  to a hundred elderly and isolate people who would have otherwise spent it alone. It's a wonderful cause and I hope to raise... a lot!
